Classy Canadian Male Actors

Canadians know more about Americans than the Americans know about Canadians.  That could be a small part  of the reason many actors from Canada have moved on south. I myself was surprised to find there's a lot of Canadian actors working in the US that I didn't know were Canadian.

I'm very pleased there's so much valued and fashionable Canadian talent.  As well, there are a lot of classy Canadian actors still on Canadian soil.  Here are a few of them (this is the male edition).  Go Canucks!

I Was Style Scouting...

I was on the bus Tuesday, and people watching as usual.  Tell me, do you notice the majority of people resort to black coats as soon as cold weather strikes?  My campaign to get more people to wear colored coats is floundering (LOL).  So, of course, the people wearing color got my attention.  Whether it was a coat or an accessory, anything in color  was refreshing.

I saw a lady come on the bus with a grey padded nylon winter coat with faux fur trimmed hood.  Lovely!

Another young lady came on the same bus.  She had a dark colored coat but what made it pop was the zebra print bag she had over her shoulder.  I suddenly loved the print.

On my way home, I was waiting at a bus terminal and letting my gaze pass over everyone there.  I spotted another young lady wearing grey harem pants with calf length boots and a military style coat.  If I had a camera with me...

Navajo Inspired Designs

I found out, while watching a Canadian program two weeks ago, that Navajo prints are again popular for fall 2011.  How could it ever be out of style?  The prints are just beautiful and such a part of the Native American culture.

The Navajo nation mainly live in the Southwestern United States where the states of Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico and Utah meet.  This area is called the Four Corners.  Navajo textiles were made as blankets to be used for cloaks, dresses, saddle blankets, and other items by this nation.  It was at the end of the 19th century that the Navajo made rugs using their designs to sell to tourists and also to export.  We're still reaping the visual rewards of their art.

Details, Details, Please!

When a new fashion season comes around, I'm looking for a new look, something that stands out, something that I haven't seen before.  It doesn't have to be a complete overhaul of a garment or accessory, it could be just one different detail on a traditional piece of clothing or a shoe.  What is fashion without a bit of a surprise, and a pleasing one at that?

I am soooo happy with the unusual details on the pictures below.  It made my day to discover them.

Notice the change in the shirt collar, the squaring of the ends instead of points?  Isn't that fantastic?

The crisscross lace detail on this blouse is absolutely lovely!

This dress is unique and refreshing.  Pleats on dresses are in for fall/winter 2011.

Shoes by Giles, www.fashiononlogie.com

The belt theme for both the bag by Alexander Wang and the shoes by Giles is very innovative. I'd like to know how one opens the bag without too much trouble though.

Styling and Entertaining Men

My plan last week was to focus this week on men who's style of clothes was bohemian.  Didn't work out.  Still working on it.  But I did find men with great style. Men from the entertainment industry.  Men with various tastes in clothes.  Women, how do your men dress?  How would you want your men to dress?

Stars Wear Boho Chic

Many stars wear the boho chic look.  Boho chic clothes...one of my favorite looks, started in the early 1990's.  Bohemian style clothes are hippie inspired clothing according to www.wikepedia.org.  The 1970's was a time of freedom, a time of change, a time of great music.  The clothes reflected this, and there were some unusual color and print combinations used for the same outfits, but I believe dressing in that decade was especially fun.  What I love, according to Savannah Miller (the actress Sienna Miller's sister), is that a bohemian chic woman or man is "...a profound romantic..." and lives outside of the box.

Quick history lesson time!  The original Bohemians were travelers from Central Europe (the French translates Bohemian as Gypsy or Roma people).  Many elements of bohemian chic clothes date back as far as the pre-Raphaelite time (mid to late 19th century)!  I have to investigate that one.
