I was looking at the New York Magazine website on the streetstyle link and I see women wearing dresses over pants.  Not only leggings, but regular slacks!  Anything goes... and I like the look of this "anything goes" look. Nothing unecessary is revealed and the women look fashion current.

Marie Osmond's Simply Classic

I found out early this week that Marie Osmond has a talk show, called Marie, on CTS in the Toronto/GTA area.   I'm so glad for her.  I used to watch the Donnie and Marie talk show some years ago (anyone remember that show?).  I loved it.  I've always loved the Osmonds, their humor, their closeness, their songs and shows, their friendly smiles.  

Marie has gone through some hardships, but look at her now with her own show. Wishing Marie much success! Let's admire her current classic style.

Under $25 Christmas Shopping

I've started my Christmas shopping last week, and I'm not spending a lot on one person.  The price of each present has to be under $20.00.  I can't spend like I used to on others, and many of you understand.  We're in the same boat.

It's not the price of the gift, it's the thought.  Many of us have been mislead, I think, in believing that the more that is spent on us, the more valuable we are and the more appreciated we are.   Not so.  I think the economic downturn is a good thing in only one way; people have to live within their means and be thoughtful about their purchases, which in turn means buying gifts that are affordable and were thoughtfully chosen to be purchased (which is the value and appreciation part).  This is no time to try to keep up with the Jones' anymore and go broke (or should I say, become even more broke!).  Which is making me kind of "home" sick for the 70's...

I Must be Missing Fifa...

I must still be missing Fifa, because I decided to look for traditional clothing from different countries yesterday.   It seems it takes special events like the Olympics or Fifa World Cup soccer competitions to cause people to realize just how big and diverse this world is.  And I say diversity is wonderful!

This big world has become a small world in terms of the fact that television, magazines, and travel has influenced people of many countries, if not all, to dress alike.  Everyone, for example, must know of the denim jean by now, and the t-shirt!  Anyway, let's appreciate the images of traditional clothing from five different parts of the world today, one of which is Spain, the Fifa World Cup winning country!

A Little History on Clothing We Can't Live Without

As much as some of us love to dress for success, dress to express ourselves, dress to convey a mood, don't we all just love the basic pieces of clothing?  I'm talking about the must must haves.  The denim jean and the t-shirt.

Now, I love an opportunity to look nice anytime, to show how good I can look, to get a couple side glances when I look just right.  And then there are always the times when I just want to look casual.   I read or hear of women always saying that " I'm most comfortable and myself in t-shirt and jeans".  I used to think that women who said this were the one's who always had to dress for their career and were in the limelight a lot.   Well, I'm not in the limelight, at least not right now (wishful thinking)  and I have to agree with them myself.

I remember my mother telling me about her girlhood days when people dressed up to go for a walk down the street or to the park.  And they most likely dressed for the movies, a concert...Now a days, we think that's a waste of time and money to  dress somewhat formally for the purpose of looking good to have casual fun (although people still dress for the theatre).    Well, how many of you still wish dress-up days were like the past?  I don't know if I do.

I'll give you a bit of history on the t-shirt and the denim jean.  The t-shirt was first introduced to American soldiers by the European soldiers in WWII.  The American soldiers appreciated the comfort of the t-shirt and started wearing them as undershirts.  By 1955 the t-shirt could be worn alone and be acceptable (thanks to stars like James Dean).  The denim jean was made for workers in 1873 by Jacob Davis and Levi Strauss (a popular brand name for jeans).   Women were free to live in jeans from around the 1950's and on, whereas before, the acceptable clothing were skirts and dresses.

These are two pieces of clothing that can be dressed up or dressed down or even in between, timeless pieces we can't live without for now and some time to come.  I think the hoody and the sneaker also should be added to the list of things we can't live without.
