A Taste of Space..

I just love futuristic action movies, futuristic architecture, space inspired clothes.  One of my favorite space movies, Star Trek Beyond,  had several wonderful costumes.  One was worn by the character Jaylah Cosplay which I give two thumbs up.  The clothes below, by designers Louis Vuitton and Proenza Schouler, have the same vibe and energy as space influenced wardrobes.  These designs are looking and moving forward...

Fashion Catching Up to Millenium

 I think that finally high fashion is catching up to the millenium.  I viewed the fall 2013/14 collections online, and I'm applauding the majority of the designs to be sold this fall, though I'm in no hurry for September to come right now.  I'm enjoying the warm spring weather we're experiencing and I want it to take its sweet time before seasons' change.

Designers' are thinking outside of the box.  The clothes are looking similar to attire worn by actors in the futuristic movies from years past.  Some designs have details that can be referenced to  previous decades, but they still retain individuality that keeps the clothes so refreshingIy current.   It's time to make these designs marketable enough at affordable prices for the public to start looking like we're living in the year 2013 and on.  Just one question:  I wonder how fashion will develop in the coming future?  Maybe the next wave of movies  will soon give us a hint.

Stunner Dresses

We all love to look at beautiful things.  As I think on this statement, what is beautiful to one person isn't necessarily beautiful to a next person.  I'm sure some of you, for example, some men in particular, think the alligator is a stunning creature.  I beg to differ, but that opinion is mine.  I won't argue what you think is beautiful.  This world has many different people with many, many opinions, and it would be a pretty boring world if everyone agreed on everything.  

This post is about dresses I think are absolutely beautiful and graceful.  May not be able to buy one, but I sure can look at them as long as I want.

Forward Fashion

I've found some clothing designs that I love by designers who you must be familiar with.  They are all fashion forward pieces with a couple of common denominators.  Can you tell me what they are?

The designers' names are Epperson, Carolina Herrera, Erdem (Canadian), Marie Saint Pierre(Canadian), Helmut Lang and Haider Ackermann.  The designs are from their fall and winter 2009 collections. Epperson's design was made for one of the challenges for season 6 of Project Runway.

Fashion as Art

People have to wear clothes everyday.  Some of us just throw on the first thing we see ( not particular about what we wear as long as most people are wearing it).  Others take great care in what they wear, probably spending a couple of hours the night before to mix and match to come up with the perfect outfit, perfect accessories, perfect hair.

There are those who wear clothes to make a statement:  "This is who I am"; "This is what I want to be"; "Look at me; don't I look different?"  (lol)

There are artistic clothes that can be worn and those that most people wouldn't wear, though they're beautiful and expertly made.  I admire greatly the designers who put together complex garments.  As someone told me years ago, designing and making patterns for clothing is almost like engineering.  I say the creative and artistic designers are fashion engineers.

Sarah and Soccer (No Connection)

The fashion world is flooded with designers.  I've been thinking off and on about all the movie stars, t.v. stars and singers designing and selling clothing to the public.  They have an added advantage; people know their names already and they most likely have a following of fans, and so they have customers just waiting to buy their goods.  

One of these designers I admire is Sarah Jessica Parker.  She is a woman who believes that everyone should be able to buy stylish clothing at affordable prices.  Sarah worked with Steve & Barry's (a sportswear retailer) to design and make clothing, under the label Bitten, for under $40 retail (Wow! I read that the starting retail price was $20 and under!).  Steve & Barry's is now out of business and so is Bitten.  I'm sorry about this.  The clothing were stylish and current.

Now, how many of you are watching Fifa World Cup soccer games?  I'm enjoying this time where most of the world is united watching a favorite sport and rooting for their country.  Unfortunately, Canada doesn't seem to have a national soccer team so we are left out, but I'm hoping on the United States, English, or Jamaican soccer teams to make it.  I have a few more favorite soccer teams as well.  I guess you know that I'm posting pictures of the soccer jerseys.  I couldn't let this opportunity slip by.  I'm loving the colors.  

It will be a bit sad when Fifa is over.  Life has to go on though...lol...

Endless Creativity...

My body may be tired from going through a mini "bootcamp" lastnight, thanks to my daughter, but my imagination and creativity has been going for a couple of weeks and not tiring yet.  My daughter decided to put me through what she has to go through in Phys Ed class every now and then.  Beep test.  Constantly moving, running, burpies, push-ups, lunges, for 10 to 20 minutes.  I was practically on the floor when I was done.  Prior to that, I had a fantastic idea for a dress and I'm looking forward to working on it and my tank top designs either tomorrow or Monday.  Hope to post pictures of them next week.

Well, I was looking at designer dresses yesterday online.  There's no end to the creativity regarding clothing designs.  Caroline Herrera has some fantastic dresses for her fall 2009 collection.   Sheer fabrics and ruffles really make an outfit absolutley feminine and ethereal.

 

Tracy Reese is a fashion designer I love.  Color must be the first thing that inspires her designs.  She usually uses unusual combinations of colors in her clothing that make the pieces fresh and unique, and the combinations work! These two pieces are from Tracy Reese's spring 2009 collection.

 Revolve Clothing Company is a Canadian clothing business based in Toronto.  Revolve uses eco-friendly fabrics to make tops and dresses for women.  The designs combine clean lines and stylish silhouettes.  To view the designs, go to www.revolveyourworld.com.

I was looking at my fashion business notes earlier and came across the names of the Project Runway season 1 contestants.  The name I focused on was Daniel Franco.  He was the first to be cut from the show.  Daniel came back for season 2 and I was rooting for him.  He didn't make the final three contestants to show his collection, but he was on the show long enough to prove he's a good designer and a gentleman.  I looked at Daniel's website, www.danielfranco.net, and I love the projects he's working on currently.  You should visit Daniel's site to see what he's done and doing.

Working on and Looking at New Designs

I'm currently working on my daughter's clothing sketches.  I told her that I wanted some of her pieces included with my spring summer line, and  I told her to choose  five designs from her countless clothing sketches  for spring and summer 2010.  I chose a sixth piece, a dress,  from her sketches that I like just as much as her choices.  

So it looks like I'm making patterns for ten to eleven pieces of clothing (this includes my five clothing pieces) as well as cutting, sewing and fitting.   She's going to have to help a little though.  This will be her "on the job training" in making a garment.  As she's the younger, I'm working on her designs first.  I'm wondering whether to combine both mini clothing lines in one video or two.  I'll ask her...  She may want  her own video to show friends and promote her talent.  I have no problem with that.   I'm excited; her designs are youthful and innovative and mine are casual, stylish pieces.

I was looking at clothing online again, one of my favorite hobbies as you must know, and I saw some very nice pieces by well known designers.  I like their aesthetic very  much.  The coral and brown suit was designed by Chado Ralph Rucci.  The black  ruffle dress was designed by Lanvin.  They are strong designs that are absolutely 21st century.

Speaking of the 21st century, if your into futuristic looking clothing like I am, you have to see the fall 2010 clothing lines on www.nymag.com.  I was so excited when I viewed some of the designs.  There weren't too many references to past decades in the designs.  I don't know if many of them are marketable right now, but they are sure fun to view.   Haider Ackermann, Barbara Bui, Pringle of Scotland and Karl Lagerfield are the designers whose clothing lines I've looked at so far.  I'm not finished yet, I'm going to look at more when I can.  I'll make mention of more clothing lines I love once I see them.
