The Colors of Fall and Winter 2010 - 2011

According to  Millionlooks.com, the colors for the fall and winter season for 2010 - 2011 are:  black, white, red, yellow, beige, blue, pink, grey, orange, brown and green.  I think that means every color existing is in fashion this fall and winter.    This should make life a bit more simple for those of us on a budget.  We've got some, if not all, of those colors in our wardrobe already.     Fashiontrendsetter.com, one of the fashion forcasting websites,  have names for their colors like tea rose, deep plum, gray mist, golden bronze, pecan and Prussian blu (I didn't spell blue wrong; that's how it's spelled on the website).

Colorful Prom Dresses

It's prom dress season, so I've collected a few pictures of prom dresses that I like.  The dresses I chose were selected on the basis of silhouette first and then color.   Sometimes I can't seperate the two because the silhouette and color go so well together in some cases.  I added three modest gowns as well.  I believe in modest and stylish clothing.  I'm an advocate for gowns and dresses with sleeves or with some form of covering for the shoulders in some way.

I noticed that the first few dresses I chose were blue.  I just love the color.  When I noticed the one color choices, I searched again for dresses I liked in other colors as well.  I had to give equal opportunity to a variety of color dresses (lol).

Unusual Inspiration for Dress Design

Last December, I had lacked inspiration.  I was wondering what would inspire me to make new designs.  Guess what?  I was watching bits of football games on television near the end of December, and very impressed with the color combinations used for the football teams uniforms: sky blue and navy blue, black and gold, blue and yellow, cherry red, white and black.    I didn't seem to notice last year. 

I know I wouldn't wear certain color combinations myself.  I started to wonder how to combine certain colors in a flattering way in dresses and blouses for women that even I would wear myself.   Based on the  color combinations mentioned as well as others, I sketched some dress designs for 2010.   For instance, this football team's uniform colors (Washington football team)

Hopefully I haven't offended any men, if any read my blog.   The colors are what inspired me.  I respect the sport of football.

2010, A New Beginning!

Happy New Year!  2010 is here!  The beginning of the year holds promise because it's a beginning.  We all want to start afresh, fix mistakes we've made, lose weight, get a new job, renew that broken relationship in our lives, go back to school, etc.  I'd like to lose weight(again), show more of my designs on my blog, move my business forward by selling my clothes to boutiques and stores, meet more people with years of business experience, and of course, help others . There's more on my list, but it would take some time to name them all.

I took my teens and their friend and my mother to a New Year's Eve concert at a church.  We had a fantastic time!  What did I wear?  Not a dress, as I would have liked, but black pants, dress boots, a burgundy jacket and a lilac t-shirt.  Yes, lilac and burgundy!  It didn't look too bad....  I didn't even watch what the women were wearing, well, I did see a fantastic 3/4 length coat with an alternating black and silver diamond print.  Couldn't get more detail; I just saw the back of the lady and the coat.


 In reference to my previous blog Choose Your Dress, I would choose the brown dress to go to a concert, and I would choose the print dress with the black cloth waist tie to dinner at a friend's home.  Out of all four dresses, I think my favorite is the brown dress.  I love the length, the 3/4 sleeve with ruffles at the cuff, and the neckline.  Of course, I may choose a new favorite dress next week.  Depends on one's mood.  Here is another dress I would love to wear:

As I was surfing the web, I came across a gorgeous wedding gown.  It is strapless and the skirt of the gown is beautifully draped diagonally.  The bodice from the neckline to the hips is rouched.  I have to say that it's time for wedding gowns with straps and sleeves to be promoted.  We've been over run by the strapless gown a bit too much.  I 

like to see variety.

Fashionistas Clothing Must Haves for Fall/Winter 2010

My list of must have clothing pieces for fall and winter 2010 is somewhat different than  other lists I've looked at today.  At least the lists, and mine, agree on three pieces of clothing, the boot, the military jacket and the knit sweater ( theirs mention chunky sweaters and mine mention the fitted turtleneck).  I'm not doing too bad!

According to www.womensfashion.suite101.com and www fashionising.com, the clothing pieces to add to your wardrobe are:

  2. Sheer clothing      (blouses, dresses)
  
  3.  Leather clothing  (skirts, jackets)  
  
  4.  Asymmetrical tops

  6.  Chunky knits
 
  7.  Capes and cloaks






The three items from this list that weren't on mine that I would also like to have are  the sheer blouse and dress, asymmetrical top and a chunky knit sweater.  I've been wearing sheer blouses that I've made over tank tops for the past few summers.  I'd like a sheer dress to wear over a strap dress, this is something I'll have to make.  I love loose sheers, they're easy to wear and allow the skin to breathe (but this doesn't apply for winter).  Asymmetrical blouses I find refreshing, somewhat out of the box, a bohemian look.  And for those of you that know I design bohemian style clothing, asymmetrical is definately up my alley.  Who can let a winter pass by without having a comfy sweater to wear,  especially for outings such as tobogganing and skating?

Fall 2009

Summer is over, fall is here already. I can't believe it! The days are going by very fast... Which reminds me, time for fall and winter clothing.

I'm currently working on my fall/winter sample clothing for 2009-10. And it's already September 21. I know I'm late. Blame the lack of finances, but I hope to finish the samples by the end of October. Spring/summer sample clothing for 2010 will have to be worked on simultaneously so I can promote the spring/summer clothing from January on.

My fall/winter clothing will incorporate a bit of structure, some ruffles (ruffles are all the rage now), and of course a Bohemian flare in some pieces. I won't be using too much black, if I use any black at all. You'll be one of the first to see my designs, so keep reading my blog.

The above design is from my spring/summer samples for 2009, but it could easily translate into fall because of the navy blue colour. I used two pairs of pants(as seen above), one light blue and one dark blue, to make this semi-fitted puffed sleeve jacket. The facing and collar are made from navy blue cotton mix fabric I purchased at a fabric store.

Currently I'm looking at all the fashion websites I can. It's amazing what some of the successful designers are making. Some designs are really exquisite, some are mediocre, and some clothing designs made me really wonder what the designers' were thinking! There are ruffles almost everywhere for the fall/winter designs for 2009.
