Eclectic Canadian Creativity

I believe when you see a Canadian collection, you know its a Canadian collection.  I'm still struggling for the one word or phrase to describe Canadian fashion.  I'm proud that people can't make the mistake of labelling Canadian clothes with another country's name or another continent.

There's an element of experimental creativity with a somewhat sophisticated restraint.  I certainly can tell.  It may be the influence of many cultures that make up Canada that inspires the work of our designers.  I'll call it culturally eclectic.

Playful Stripes Galore!

It's amazing to me how as one gets older, one starts liking things not previously liked.  Now, I haven't been a fan of striped women's clothing for so long, as the striped clothes consisted of two colors of horizontal stripes in the same width on t-shirts, and ladies striped dress shirts for the office.  Basic clothing staples.

Watching Project Runway's 10th season, episode 6, online, what do I see Heidi Klum wearing?  This fantastic knit dress with various sized stripes, in three colors,  running in diagonal and horizontal directions.  Fantastic!  I now love stripes.  And I found more playfully striped clothing that suit the millenium and that I would dare to wear.

Lace Up Your Look

I was cruising Facebook when I saw a post liked by a "friend" from the Fashion page.  What I saw were a few gorgeous shoes highlighting an unconventional material - lace.  They were, and are, phenomenal.  What can be so feminine than a lace shoe with 2" heels?  If you get a chance, take a look at Fashion on Facebook.  This page has a lot of posts of colorful trendy clothes paired with shoes and other accessories.

Just Delightful!

Yesterday, parts of eastern Canada and the US were hit with a snow storm.  My city usually misses the bad weather and areas around us are affected, but this time my city received quite a few centimetres of snow we haven't seen much of for about 4 years.  I don't mind the snow; I   used to get through the winter skating and tobogganning with my kids.  They're too old for that now, and so I'm so so ready for spring.

I was looking through a fashion magazine and saw a beautiful couture dress that just shouts "Spring!".  Can't wait for it!  Here are some ethereal dresses that makes me wait impatiently for that lovely season.  I just had to post two pictures from designer Georges Habeika; he has quite a few ethereal dresses in his collection.

The Two Extremes - Black and White Designs

There's a saying: "Opposites attract".  I'm not sure if that's true in every case or most cases.  I can definately say, for myself, that in terms of clothe, and regarding black and white printed clothe in particular, this saying is definately true.

Take the two most extreme colors on the color wheel, put them together on fabric attractively, and you've got a winner.  Use the same fabric to make a garment in even the simplest silhouette, and you've got a show stopper.

Beguiling Blazers for Men

It's exciting to preview what will be worn on the stylish people in the following season.  I had a look at some of the top designers men's collections for spring and summer 2013 online, and I have to say, the men's collections are more colorful  with more experimental details.  Well, it's about time!   The men's blazers, for instance, are color blocked, have contrasting colors, have graphic prints, and also match the shade of the shirt underneath for a very uniform look.  I also saw a vintage blazer on Facebook by Apostolic Clothing, and it's put together with other unique pieces that makes it a very attractive garment many men would love to own.

Can't Go Through Winter Without a Hat

Wearing hats for the winter season is an easy way to update your wardrobe, whether inside or outdoors.   The variety is wonderful, there's got to be a style for even the fussiest among us.  Top fashion designers pair knit hats and fedoras with dresses and pant ensembles. Hats aren't just for outdoors anymore.  With so many styles from knit caps to  fur hats, everyone should be wearing a hat for the winter 2012-13 season.
