I Like These Shoes...

Well, this week I ended up looking at shoes.  No particular reason.  I actually wanted to find a variety of clothes and accessories I liked, and ended up focusing on only shoes.  I chose dress sandals and a pair of casual shoes I would like, and I chose sneakers my teens may like.  I should have asked their opinion, right?  That's an idea for a next blog...

The following shoes are custom made from www.zazzle.com.  Anyone can chose from 7 Ked shoe styles and have their own designs, photos, text, and more, used to make a one of a kind sneaker.  A piece of art on feet!  My teens would absolutely love creating art for their own shoes.

Wedding Dresses for a Future Princess

North Americans just love the British.  Just look at how many British hosts there are on television now on talent shows for example.  We have something to look forward to this year: the marriage of Prince William and Kate Middleton on April 29, 2011!

Kate seems to be a sensibly elegant dresser.  She looks great in what she wears, but doesn't bring too much attention to herself.  The clothes look good on her, not the other way around.  Based on these observations, I decided to pick a few wedding dresses I think would compliment her.

Most likely Kate's wedding dress will be a bit more elaborate, as befitting a future princess, but I think the dress will follow along the lines of those above, with a long train of course.  I could be wrong, but I can't wait to find out!  I will be getting up at 4 in the morning, wearing my best pajamas, eating toast and jam with a cup of coffee to keep awake!

There's one more wedding dress that caught my eye and I give it two thumbs up!

An Artistic Designer, Ballet Flats, and One More Thing...

I see some clothing designs and silhouettes as a form of art.  Fabric can be cut and draped and pleated into a piece of clothing interesting to behold.  Fabric can also have art drawn, painted, or printed on before or after the clothing piece is made.  Either way, wearing these types of clothes are a lot more fun and expressive.

One very nice designer I've come to "meet" and "talk" to (through Facebook e-mails) is Gail Cavanaugh.  She is an artist and entrepreneur, among other things, from Rhode Island, USA. Gail prints her watercolor designs on t-shirts, hoodies, tank tops, as well as cups, coasters, and cards.  She can make paintings according to your specifications or you can choose one of her many watercolors to have printed on an item of your choice at affordable prices.    I've recently purchased a Monarch butterfly coaster from Gail which I'm happy with.  It's very pretty.   Her website is www.cafepress.com/Cavcreate.

I'm planning what to purchase now for spring.  Have to budget ahead of time.  I find myself budgeting about 3 months in advance now.  One thing I need are a pair of flats.  I'm a woman who loves comfort, and I want to get around easily in low or no heels.  I was looking at flats in a popular department store catalogue and couldn't believe that some flats were priced at over $50, $60, and $70!  For the price concientious lady,  www.thecheapgirl.com (love the name of the website!) directs women looking for affordable items to locations having sample sales in Canada, the US, and Britain. These flats are priced under $20.00!

And one more thing.  I found this men's shirt online with an original plaid I like.  I couldn't not post it.  It's very original.  Could we call it an ombre plaid print?  What do you think?

That Bohemia Feeling...

How was your holiday?  Mine was good and unexpectedly busy during the last week of 2010.  Now the new year is here; I didn't even make any New Years resolutions like I used to do.  I'm going to just work on a few of my goals plus wait to see what comes.  And for those of you that may have read my blog last week, I wore a loose black blouse, a beige shirt jacket, and a "salt and pepper" calf length straight cut skirt to the New Years Eve service (I took my teens to a church concert.  It was excellent!).  Not my first choice of what I would like to wear, but I had less than two hours to find something to put on.

Yesterday I was thinking on how 2011 should be clothes-wise.  I'm feeling ease of movement in clothing is key.  I'm thinking loose and light fabrics.  I'm thinking expressive clothing.  I'm thinking color (don't I always think color?) to express hopefulness for the future and a passion for one's beliefs.  Bohemia!  I can also see people wearing semi-structured  clothing in colors such as grey, white, black and taupe.  To each his own.  Here are a few of bohemian clothing I've taken a liking to:

Dresses to Celebrate In

The beginning of the new year is just at our doorstep.  Happy New Year everyone, and a belated Merry Christmas!  Many people will be celebrating the coming of 2011 tonight.    I found a few attractive and unique dresses online that I think many women would love to wear to bring in the new year.  What will you be wearing?

What am I wearing, you may be asking?  Hmmm...  I don't know yet... I'll choose something a couple of hours before I'm ready to go out...  I'll try to put together something unusual.

I hope that 2011 is a year of inward peace and contentment for you all.  Happy New Year!  Till next blog!

Under $25 Christmas Shopping

I've started my Christmas shopping last week, and I'm not spending a lot on one person.  The price of each present has to be under $20.00.  I can't spend like I used to on others, and many of you understand.  We're in the same boat.
It's not the price of the gift, it's the thought.  Many of us have been mislead, I think, in believing that the more that is spent on us, the more valuable we are and the more appreciated we are.   Not so.  I think the economic downturn is a good thing in only one way; people have to live within their means and be thoughtful about their purchases, which in turn means buying gifts that are affordable and were thoughtfully chosen to be purchased (which is the value and appreciation part).  This is no time to try to keep up with the Jones' anymore and go broke (or should I say, become even more broke!).  Which is making me kind of "home" sick for the 70's...

Here are some nice clothing and accessories for under $25.00.  This is my type of shopping...

Denim jacket, $15.00, www.the15dollarstore.com

Gramicci Cedar shirt, $17.93, www.rei.com

Enjoy shopping wisely in the following week.  Till next blog!

Color and Print - Mens' Cotton Shirts

All right, I'm not sure what or who inspired me to look at mens' shirts this week.  My brother went clothes shopping today, but, no, I've had the urge to research mens' shirts from earlier in the week.  I'm sure I must have seen a man's inspirational shirt this week which sent me down this road.

Men may not have a lot of different silhouettes to wear, like we women do, but there seems to be a variety of prints and colors in cotton shirts.  I'd like the uncommon colors to be used more, like navy blue, hunter green, brown, and taupe as well as graphic prints for mens' shirts.
