Navajo Inspired Designs

I found out, while watching a Canadian program two weeks ago, that Navajo prints are again popular for fall 2011.  How could it ever be out of style?  The prints are just beautiful and such a part of the Native American culture.

The Navajo nation mainly live in the Southwestern United States where the states of Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico and Utah meet.  This area is called the Four Corners.  Navajo textiles were made as blankets to be used for cloaks, dresses, saddle blankets, and other items by this nation.  It was at the end of the 19th century that the Navajo made rugs using their designs to sell to tourists and also to export.  We're still reaping the visual rewards of their art.

Details, Details, Please!

When a new fashion season comes around, I'm looking for a new look, something that stands out, something that I haven't seen before.  It doesn't have to be a complete overhaul of a garment or accessory, it could be just one different detail on a traditional piece of clothing or a shoe.  What is fashion without a bit of a surprise, and a pleasing one at that?

I am soooo happy with the unusual details on the pictures below.  It made my day to discover them.

Notice the change in the shirt collar, the squaring of the ends instead of points?  Isn't that fantastic?

The crisscross lace detail on this blouse is absolutely lovely!

This dress is unique and refreshing.  Pleats on dresses are in for fall/winter 2011.

The belt theme for both the bag by Alexander Wang and the shoes by Giles is very innovative. I'd like to know how one opens the bag without too much trouble though.

Styling and Entertaining Men

My plan last week was to focus this week on men who's style of clothes was bohemian.  Didn't work out.  Still working on it.  But I did find men with great style. Men from the entertainment industry.  Men with various tastes in clothes.  Women, how do your men dress?  How would you want your men to dress?
