Wearable Crochet: Erika and Monika Simmons Designs

Erika and Monika Simmons are twins who design colorful and unique crochet clothing for women.  Both first learned to crochet in grade 4.  After graduating from child development and sociology programs in college, they, because of their love for creativity, were working as hair braiders, print models, taught fitness classes and also were employed as dancers for music videos. Apparently all these jobs didn't increase the amount of money earned, so Erika and Monika revived their crocheting skills during a tight Christmas season to create inexpensive gifts for family.  These garments are the lovely results coming out of a need.  And there's plenty more beautiful crocheted creations to see, and purchase, from the Simmons twins.

Exclusivey Etsy is a great website for shoppers and designers alike.  Designers get to sell their products, usually one-of-a-kind designs, and shoppers looking for the unique items not seen at the neighborhood department stores have a great time surfing this site.

I'm always pleasantly surprised looking at

What to Wear to Weddings

Question?  Are most weddings held on the weekends, making Saturday probably the most popular day to get married?  I believe so.  I also think that most weddings are held during the spring and summer seasons for obvious reasons.

Many of you may be attending a wedding during the warm seasons and wondering what to wear.  Here are a few ideas;  the colors, prints, fabrics and details are fantastic!

No matter what you wear, it's wonderful to witness a couple committing to one another.  Enjoy the weddings!  Till next blog!

Love Indigenous Prints

Basically, different ethnicities have identifying fabrics unique to each one.  Many are very colorful with intricate designs.   On my list of favorite ethnic fabrics are the prints designed by the indigenous peoples of America, especially when used to design current fashionable clothing.  Love the colors!

Want an Unconventional Wedding?

Want an unconventional wedding?  You can start by choosing an avant- garde wedding dress which will definitely be one of the centers of attention.  Whether the gown is made of feathers, or making use of non-traditional material, it's sure to be a conversation starter. The wedding dresses I chose are absolutely outside of the box and each stunning in their own way.

The Vertical Stripe Wins

Aren't striped fabrics mostly cut to run horizontal on sewn garments?  Yes they are. And don't you find that striped fabrics cut to make vertical striped clothing very a la mode?  I definitely do.  I believe this is how I prefer to wear stripes...

Fashion Through the Decades

Fashion has changed so much over the centuries, but not as much as it's changed between 1900 and 2000.  Clothes can show a few things about a person such as economic status, the type of music genre preferred, even what faith you may be.

Today, African American fashion spanning seven decades is spotlighted.  Enjoy!

All Around the World

Fashion is an international visual language.  Creativity in clothing can be found anywhere on the globe.  I hope you enjoy the designs I've posted today.  Glad the world has many different cultures with their own twist on fashion.   The gorgeous dresses here belong to ( in order) Norway, Canada (designed by a Native Canadian designer), Japan and the last dress is an African inspiration.

White Nights

Did you watch the SAG awards?  Most likely the fashion worn there is a high indication of what is currently vogue.  It looks as if white is a popular color to wear for an evening out.  If you get a chance, surf the net to see how many ladies, and at least one man, were wearing white Sunday evening.

White isn't just for weddings or communions anymore...

Couture Splendour for Little Ladies

I didn't know couture clothing was being made for children!   As I live I'm still learning.  One children couture designer is Mischka Aoki who resides in Australia.  Her work is luxurious with beautiful and time consuming details.    I'm not even going to tell you the price of one of these gorgeous dresses.  I hyperventilate every time I see the cost.  You can go to to see for yourself.

Oh, and by the way,  a very belated Happy New Year!
